BossaCucaNova - Revisited Classics
When it first came out ten years ago, this album was arguably the first electronic take on bossa nova to come out of Brazil. Three unknown carioca Djs/producers – DJ Dalua, Alexandre Moreira and Marcio Menescal – produced this album in response to the the wave of bossa-inspired dance music coming from Europe and North America : they felt that it was time for the voice of young Rio to be heard… They took ten versions of classic songs, produced by Marcio's father Roberto Menescal with legendary vocalists such as Carlos Lyra and Wanda Sâ, and completely re-arranged and updated them, eliciting enthusiastic reactions from both sides of the North Atlantic.
Incidentally, Roberto Menescal is one of the original key figures of the Bossa Nova movement. He wrote several classic songs, including "O Barquinho" (revisited in this album), which is rumoured to have served as an inspiration for the theme tune of 1996 award-winning "A Man and a Woman" movie.
Following on the footsteps of this auspicious debut, Bossacucanova went on to record two more albums for Crammed's Ziriguiboom imprint.
