Description

Cibelle - Cibelle

Cibelle's self-titled debut album immediately established her as one of the most imaginative and original young artists to come out of Brazil.
Cibelle (pronounced "See-bell-ee") first came to attention as the main vocalist on the late Suba's cult São Paulo Confessions album. Her self-titled debut album came out in 2003, and immediately established her as one of the most imaginative and original young artists to come out of Brazil. Still partly rooted in bossa nova, electronic downtempo, samba soul & tropicalia, this album already strongly points to the directions she's developed in her second album (more folk, more microbeats, even more sonic inventivity...).

Reviews

"A very special talent. Music of no particular origin" (Blues & Soul) • "More interesting that Morcheeba, more curious than Beth Orton" (Mojo) • "A superb debut … An audacious record… adding elements of nu-jazz and pop psychedelia to the dazzling mix…" (The Times) • "Thrilling: light and easy on the ear, but full of ideas… It's simultaneously like nothing on earth and everything you've heard before. This summer, the sound of Cibelle will be percolating out of every hip coffe bar, lounge and clothes shop" (The Independent) • “Cibelle’s glittering voice oozes sweet seduction and signals the arrival of a major new star.” (HMV Choice) • “One of the most talked-about world records of the year” (Daily Telegraph).
