Various Artists - Crammed Goes To The Movies
Over the past 30-or-so years, Crammed Discs has put out over 280 albums and nearly as many singles. These releases showcase a range of music that not only spans the world in a geographical sense, but also leads the listener on a merry dance across the full musical spectrum, including some of the finest rock, world music, pop and electronica.
Crammed Goes To The Movies is the second volume in a new series of Crammed compilations, in which each volume is bound together by a theme, but also offers a unique and adventurous cross-section of the label's oeuvre. This volume focuses its lens on Crammed tracks that have either been used in films, offer inventive reworks of cult movie songs, or have been inspired by a particular flick, director or genre. The resulting selection takes you on a cinematic journey through three decades of Crammed music: from Sonoko’s charming teenage Japanese take on European art cinema, through to Tony Allen and MC Jean Gab’1 tearing it up blaxploitation style for the film ‘Black’, via Shantel’s infectious rework of Mahala Rai Banda as heard in ‘Borat’… Popcorn at the ready !
